Super Writer Journal!

Hi friends!
It's Sarah from A Sunny Day in First Grade! :)

I'm super excited about this month's dollar deal!
I like to have my kids write every day.
I found myself always trying to think of a topic!
Last summer I created these Super Writer journals...with a daily prompt all ready to go!

The kids LOVE them!
It gets them excited about writing.
It makes me so happy!

You can mix and match the prompts, ordering them however you want for the month.

There are all kinds of options!
Some the kids choose between two things.

There are how-to's.

Some have questions for the kids to answer.

Others give a title and the kids have to be creative!

There are also informational pieces, free write pages, and weekend writes.
I always start by modeling the prompt.
The kids love seeing what I write and it gets them more excited about it too!

Stop by and grab the Super Writers: February while it's only $1!!!

Happy Writing (and weekend)!!!

Wonderful Winter Word Work!

Greetings from northwest Ohio where the weather forecast calls for high winds and snow storms starting later tonight!

Am I wishing, and hoping, and praying for a SNOW DAY?  You betcha!

My students were a acting a little loony today, so I am for sure wearing my pajamas inside out, putting a spoon under my pillow, and flushing an ice cube down the toilet in hopes of some time away from the fray tomorrow!  Time off would also allow me to print and prep these word power activities that just received a makeover!  If you own it already, be sure to re-download!  If you don't, grab it {HERE} for $1 through Wednesday, January 13th!  Be sure to check out the full product preview!

Last year my class had great fun creating these paper bag snowman puppets and writing winter compound words on the snowballs provided.  They also enjoyed highlighting the rhyming words they found in my original Snow Day poem, and kept it in their partner reading folders for fluency practice.

Making words activities, as well as a variety of creative writing prompts are provided and can be used for whole group lessons or literacy center practice.

Be sure to check out this other word power pack {HERE} if your students need practice sorting winter vocabulary words into categories and reading for context clues!

As always, thanks for stopping by Teacher Deals and Dollar Steals for all the great resources offered here by some of my best blogger buddies!  Know that we wish you all good things as the new year unfolds!  Be sure to stop by my blog, Stories and Songs in Second, for more ideas and resources to help you teach your children well!

Warm Regards,

Jennifer

Spaghetti and Meatball Spaces

Are you looking for a way to help your young writers remember to leave spaces between their words?  Well then, here is my recipe for spaces...  Spaghetti and Meatballs.  What is that you ask?  Well, here's what that means...

The spaghetti spaces are the small spaces between the letters IN a word and the meatball spaces are the bigger spaces BETWEEN the words.

Spaghetti and Meatball spaces
Poster for leaving spaces in writing

We talk about how in a word, the letters need to be very close to each other, but they can't touch.  These small spaces are like pieces of spaghetti.  I give everyone a real piece of uncooked spaghetti to try this out.  This is great for beginning writers who are having trouble spacing their letters appropriately.

Then I write a sentence with absolutely no spaces and we try to read it.  Not easy I tell you!
It shows us how important spaces are between the words.  When we write we need a big space between the words and those are the meatball spaces. No, I do not use a real meatball here, but I do give them a brown fuzzy pom pom to use.

After we use the real piece of spaghetti and the brown pom pom meatball, I glue the meatball to a craft stick and put those in my writing center.  When the kids are writing, many will grab a meatball stick to use.  They love the novelty of getting a tool to use to help them write.  I love that I can drop the stick onto their desk when I see that they need to remember to use spaces when writing and they immediately remember the lesson and start leaving spaces.

You can grab these cute posters for your own classroom here for just $1 for the next few days.  What a steal!

These are great to display in your writing center or to put into your kid's writing folders.

I hope you enjoy my Dollar Steal for the month!

The Elves Are Here!

Has your classroom elf arrived from the North Pole yet? Ours has! Jingle arrived in a special package from the North Pole on Tuesday, and my kids were psyched!
She brought us a letter introducing herself, and letting us know that she will return to the North Pole each night to tell her "boss" how we were doing. {Isn't the plush elf the cutest? To be honest, the normal Elf on the Shelf elf kind of creeps me out!}
She also brought with her some special elf journals for us to write in each day!
My students are so EXCITED about writing in their elf journals! It is great to see them look forward to it each morning! They have been writing about Jingle's arrival, what she has brought us, where she has moved... everything! Even my struggling writers look forward to their journal entries each day! Here are some of our entries...
"Jingle came to the class to watch over us."
"Jingle came in a box."
"Jingle saw our classroom."

Do you have a classroom elf? Grab these elf journals for just $1 in my TpT shop! I have included two different line options as well as a blank journal entry page and a page with a sentence starter! All of your learners will feel successful in their journals! Click the image below to check them out!

Differentiated Rebus Stories

Hi! Happy December Everyone! It is Gloria from 2 Scoops of Kindergarten.

Hard to believe it is the last month of the year! This time of year the children are so excited to say the least! I love to give them fun activities they love so ~ they stay focused! Ha!

Well, I try anyway and one of their favorites is to write
these rebus stories! Each of these this month will be on SALE for only $1.00!!

Remember only $1 for
December 1st, 2nd, & 3rd

My students love REBUS stories because they love to add fun pictures to their writing!
In Kindergarten at this time every student is at different points in their writing. Some need extra support. This packet includes sheets for students to write or to just add pictures to their story. It can be made into a class book or each child can have their own story.
Also included are I can statements so students are focused on the directions and strengthen independence.
A very simple example is given to help with directions.

Thank you for visiting us at 2 Scoops of Kindergarten!
