Word Mats for October {Proud to be Primary}

Hi everyone! It's Elyse from Proud to be Primary.
I'm excited to be back sharing October Word Mats with you!
Word Mats are similar to Math Mats and take the same format, but cover ELA standards.
Word Mats for October provides a lot of practice on many different language skills.
Proud to be Primary's October Word Mats provide tons of ELA practice of skills and spiraling review of concepts on each mat.
I created Word Mats so that I had something to give my students to practice the ELA concepts that we needed to know on a daily basis. I wanted each page of this resource to provide an abundance of learning opportunities, as well as the necessary review that is needed in order for students to retain an understanding of ELA skills and standards.

Here is the breakdown of a Word Mat.
Proud to be Primary's October Word Mats provide tons of ELA practice of skills and spiraling review of concepts on each mat.

Each Word Mat is different and each month touches on almost ALL of the Common Core Standards for Language for first grade. It will also work as ELA review for second grade and for those in Kindergarten needing a challenge. You can be confident that your students are learning and practicing the necessary skills in ELA each month!

Another reason why I LOVE these mats is the low-prep aspect. They are print and go style printable sheets that lend themselves well to many uses.

Copy Word Mats on card stock and laminate. You could also put the pages inside a wipe-off cover. Give students a dry erase pen to complete the Word Mat for that day. After they complete a mat, they simply clean it off and give to someone else to complete. They work great for your literacy center and during your fast finisher time.

You can print Word Mats on seasonal colored paper. You can keep them stored for each month ready to go.

A cover page is provided in each Word Mat pack with the option of creating a booklet for your students. These booklets work great for morning work time or for homework packets to send home with your students each month. Parents would love that!

Word Mats work great, as well during your small group time!

Another option for keeping Word Mats and other ELA activities all in one place is to use a three pronged folder. I love using these types of folders because my students can keep them in their book baskets or desks and they are easily accessible when needed.

You could make a copy of the monthly Word Mats for each students to place inside their folder and use for morning work and homework.

Here is close-up sample of a Word Mat. Each mat has a spot for your students' name and the date. Each Word Mat is clearly represented with the ELA concept (heading) at the top of each section. The instructions are below the headings and important text is in bold to help students complete the activities. Seasonal and related graphics are used to clearly represent the questions.

Get Back in the Groove

Hey guys! It's Aimee from {Taking on Second}! I want to tell you all about my {"Back in the Groove"} beginning of the year review book!
This book is filled with math and phonics pages to help you find out right where your new kiddos are with their skills. It also helps the students get back into the school mindset.
There are simple addition and subtraction pages along with time, money, fractions, and word problems.
Students will also practice writing numbers in words...which is a skill that still needs practice, well spelling at least!  There are also pages that review each long and short vowel. These are not all the same so students won't get bored highlighting or sorting.
When my students were working, I noticed that we really needed to hit on those vowel sounds again. After they did Sounds of A, it seemed to go much smoother too, so maybe it was a refresher for them!
{Back in the Groove}is on sale for $1.00 for the next three days!! Be sure to check it out! I have been using it for morning work to get their minds going for the day.

Game Day! (From Primary Scribbles)

In my classroom, I like to make learning fun.  I assume you do as well.  I have a hard time finding meaningful activities to practice spelling.  Kids in my room have a hard time staying focused when participating in spelling activities.  Therefore, I have started creating games for my students to play to practice our spelling pattern for the week.  So far, I have created an R-Controlled Vowel Gamepack for kids to play and practice spelling words.

This pack includes ar, er, ir, or, ur vowel pattern word cards, game boards, and pictures.  Also, I included both color and black/white version of the game boards, and word cards (I like to print black and white versions on colored cardstock).   Student directions are also included for game play.  All you will need to add for game play is a die, game markers, and a pencil/paper or whiteboard and marker.

In my classroom, I introduce the game on Mondays after introducing the spelling pattern for the week.  Next, I make enough copies to place all of my students into small groups and practice playing the game.  This is our mini lesson (introduce and examples) and lesson (playing game in small group)  The rest of the week, I push this out to our center stations.  I will also use this in my small group meetings or RTI for those students need extra practice and teaching.

You can find this product in my store for only $1.00 for the next three days.

Getting Back in the Groove

Hey guys, it's Aimee from {Taking on Second}! The first week of school is never my favorite. Procedures have to be taught and practiced, and it's too early to dive right into the routine. Students and teachers need time to get back into the groove of school. To help my students get back into a school mind set, we will be using my back to school skills book!
This book covers skills that beginning of the year second grade students should have down pat! There is math and phonics covered!
The skills covered are:
*Simple addition and subtraction(this page is identical to the EOY 2nd grade book)

*Hundreds chart missing numbers
*Word problems: addition, subtraction, money, time, fraction, calendar
*Patterns: numbers and shape
*Place value to 100
*Time to hour and half hour
*Fractions( this page is identical to the EOY 2nd grade book)
* Money
*Numbers in words
*Long and short A
*Long and short E
*Long and short I
*Long and short O
*Long and shout U
*Syllables

These are able to be copied, cut in half and stapled at the top to make the pages easily flip up!
Each vowel sound has a new way to practice the sound than the one before it. They are short, but to the point. This will be an awesome beginning of the year "assessment" of what my students are truly capable of. This will also make all that reviewing skills so much smoother! I have mine printed, stapled and ready! How about you? Click the cover below to get them for only $1.00! They will be on sale for the next three days!

Compound Words Activity Packet!

Hello everyone!  Happy Fourth of July!  It's Jayme from Teach Talk Inspire!

I am so excited to be joining this fabulous team of bloggers to share some great dollar deals with you!  I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday with friends and family and getting to enjoy some quality down time.

July Fourth has always been a favorite holiday of mine.  Who doesn't enjoy spending time with loved ones, grilling hot dogs and hamburgers, and watching fireworks?!  I'm taking a quick break from the patriotic celebrations to share a new dollar deal with you today!

Even though it's summer and we're all relaxing, I know we're all looking to stock up on some goodies for our incoming students.  Today I'm sharing a packet of activities from my store that my students absolutely LOVED this year!  My Compound Words Activity Pack!

Teaching compound words is so much fun and I loved using the different interactive activities and games included in this packet.  There are very few days that you WILL NOT find my students up and moving and this packet of activities helps you to do just that.  Keep your students moving and having fun!

My students loved starting their learning with these adorable visual cards and game called Compound Connection.  My students were each given a puzzle piece and asked to find a matching partner who would create a real compound word with them.

Also in this packet, you will find compound word display cards to use for your word wall, on an anchor chart, or for a center activity!

My students LOVE interactive activities like Find Someone Who.  Not only does it get my students up and moving but it allows for all of my kids to interact and participate at the same time.  My students don't even realize they're learning when they're playing this game!

What kid doesn't love to scoot?  My kids get such a kick out of scooting around the classroom to other kid's desk or around the room.  This compound word scoot is a great way to assess students to see where their knowledge of compound words are and what additional practice they may need.

Another interactive activity included in this packet is Compound Word Pictionary!  My students love to draw and this was a great way for them to practice identifying compound words, spelling them, and using them in sentences!

To see the additional compound word activities like interactive notebook pages, Highlight A Word, and Spin a Compound Word and snag this dollar deal check it out in my TpT store here!

I hope you all have a very happy and safe holiday!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Alphabet Strip Crafts by Proud to be Primary

Hi everyone! It's Elyse from Proud to be Primary.
This month I am introducing my line of Alphabet products. The $1 deal for the next 3 days are my Alphabet Strip Crafts. Plus, ALL of my Alphabet products are all ON SALE (20% off) for the next 3 days. Check them out by clicking the image below!

I have been busy using these alphabet activities at home with my son, Jackson. To read the full post, click HERE.
J loves making crafts and the Alphabet Strip Crafts are a perfect way to make a craft and learn at the same time. He is a little reluctant to color and has not yet learned how to cut, so we make these crafts together, while I gently and slowly help him learn many new skills (cutting, gluing, coloring, identifying pictures, etc.).
With these crafts, your students can color pictures that start with a letter, cut out the pictures (we cut in a circle to make it easier) they've colored, and glue them down. I suggest using a long strip of construction paper with the letter at the top. For variation, have students sound out and spell the pictures.
You can grab the Alphabet Strip Crafts as a steal for ONLY $1 for the next 3 days (April 30th - May 2nd). Click the image below to head to my store to check it out!
