Get Back in the Groove

Hey guys! It's Aimee from {Taking on Second}! I want to tell you all about my {"Back in the Groove"} beginning of the year review book!

This book is filled with math and phonics pages to help you find out right where your new kiddos are with their skills. It also helps the students get back into the school mindset.  

There are simple addition and subtraction pages along with time, money, fractions, and word problems. 

Students will also practice writing numbers in words...which is a skill that still needs practice, well spelling at least!  There are also pages that review each long and short vowel. These are not all the same so students won't get bored highlighting or sorting.

When my students were working, I noticed that we really needed to hit on those vowel sounds again. After they did Sounds of A, it seemed to go much smoother too, so maybe it was a refresher for them!

Easy Peasy Printables {with The Primary Gal}

Hey friends!  It's Amanda from The Primary Gal.  I've been torn for the last week as to what to share with you today.  I have two products that I have recently uploaded (and more on the way) and I am DYING to share them.  So rather than settle with only ONE, I'm sharing BOTH!

I am in love with this new pack.  Last year, I created a line of products for my word work centers.  I use these in my resource room weekly and have seen HUGE growth from my kids!  I recently decided that I really needed more printable pages to assess, use for homework, morning work, and small groups to further support their vowel knowledge.  The picture above are from the first in the series, however MANY more are in the works.

Let's Go On a Vowel Hunt!

Hey everyone! Aimee from {Taking on Second} here! I'm so excited to tell you about my newest product, "{We're Going on a Long Vowel Hunt}!"

This vowel hunt has a section for all the vowels, and sometimes y;) 

Long A: a, ai, ay, and a_e

Long E: ee, ea, e_e, and y

Long I: i, igh, i_e, and y

Long O: ow, o_e and oa

Long U: ew, ue, ui, and u_e

For each vowel, there is a short paragraph where students are searching for a specific vowel sound. At the bottom, they are required to tell how many of a specific vowel team they found. For example, Long A Hunt has students tell how many "AY" words they found. This was a big hit with my kids. I opened up a new pack of highlighters, and they couldn't wait to get started!

A vowel sort is also included for each vowel! These are a great support before or after the hunt. I like to use the sort first, then use the hunt as a follow up activity. 

Each vowel also has picture cards with elementary writing lines for students to either write the vowel sound they hear, write the word, or they could even use this for rhyming! In my second grade room, my kids are going to write the name of the picture.

These come in color and black and white to save on printing! Sometimes the pictures are hard to figure out, even for the teacher! I have included a cheat sheet for the pictures.
