Vocabulary for the Holidays!

Hey there! It's Elyse from A is for Apples and Kelly from Sweet Sounds of Kindergarten! We love the holiday season and try to make the holidays a fun time in our classrooms! We both have some great products you can use to introduce, practice, and review vocabulary words for the holidays in your classroom!

Elyse helps her students learn holiday vocabulary by putting holiday word scrambles into the word work station. These can be used as a hands-on, center activity - just print, laminate and cut out. Or, use the black & white printables so students can cut, glue, and take home their holiday words.
Click HERE or on the image below to see these in her store!

Kelly uses these adorable word wall cards to display holiday and winter vocabulary. She also added all of her students' names onto snowflakes. Students can use these cards to practice reading and writing holiday words all month long!

FALL into FUN Reading & Writing Activities!

Hi there! It's Elyse from A is for Apples and I'm here to show you some of my favorite reading and writing activities for my favorite season of fall!!

I love using my Read-Trace-Write-Glue sentences for morning work. They are quick (no prep!), easy for students to understand, and help with both reading and writing!

These sentences touch on so many basic reading and writing skills!
-using picture clues
-handwriting
-writing with spaces
-sentence structure and order
-reading with sight words

We've been working hard on our writing this fall. One of the ways I help my young students learn how to write is by using lots of graphic organizers. It helps get their thoughts down on paper using labels and short phrases. Then, we move into full sentence writing.

Pumpkin writing we did earlier this week! I love seeing how far they've come since our apple writing over a month ago!

Learning the ABCs with Print and Go Activities!

Hi there! It's Elyse from A is for Apples and I'm ready to show you some awesome, no prep, alphabet printables for you to use during this busy back to school time! I hope I'm not alone when it comes to doing lots of assessments with my students at the beginning of the school year... I needed activities that my Kinders could do on their own! (HA!!!) I created a couple alphabet printable packs last year so that my students could practice identifying the letters while I worked with other students.

These alphabet search and color pages are one of my favorite activities. It really helps the students differentiate between the letters of the alphabet as they hunt for the letter of focus. It also helps with their color word recognition.

There's never enough time for handwriting anymore! These print and go pages from my Print and Go Activities for Letters and Sounds pack are the perfect solution for some quick handwriting practice. I let my kiddos use markers to make it a bit more exciting. Then, I have them draw and label pictures on the back that start with that letter.
Also included in my Print and Go for Letters and Sounds are printables focusing on digraphs, blending, beginning-middle-ending sounds, and CVC/CVCe words. These pages are good practice for any of your higher Kinder kiddos, later on in the year, or as a review for first graders!

Click on the cover images below to see these packs in my store and grab them for
ONE DOLLAR each!! They'll be on sale all weekend (including our day off on Monday!)

Ways to Show Numbers ~ Printables & Posters!

Hi there, it's Elyse from A is for Apples! Recently, I've had math on my brain...which is very rare for me! Last week, I wrote a big post about math strategies and making math fun!
You can read it HERE!

In that post, I talked a bit about my "Ways to Show Numbers" packs. These number packs have been lifesavers when it comes to showing numbers! This is a skill we practice early on in the school year and it can be challenging for some of the kiddos.

Last year, I made a poster to help model different ways to show numbers. I printed the blank page from the poster pack on color paper using the poster option on Adobe. I laminated the pages so we could write on them and then taped the pages together. I had the students help me model each number before they went to their seats to work independently.
The poster pack also includes color and black & white versions with examples of how to show numbers from 1-20. I hang these up in my math station area so students can refer to them, if needed.

I chose to print the pages 2-per page to make them into a half sheet. This way, we could fit them in our math notebooks. You can also print them full page and then staple the pages together to make a 'ways to show numbers' booklet!

Once my students had a good grasp on this concept, this was something I put into my math stations for them to complete on their own. I love finding something they can do independently early on in the year!
Another idea I'm going to try out this year will be to print these pages and put them in a dry erase sleeve. Then they can show lots of different ways to show numbers during their math center time!
These printables can be found in my Ways to Show Numbers 1-10 pack.
I also have a set for showing numbers 11-20.

Grab these packs for only $1 each!
They'll be discounted through July 7th!

Teacher Confession: Math is NOT my Thing!

Happy Easter and Passover teacher friends!
It's Elyse from A is for Apples bringing you some math deals!

Teacher Confession: Math is not my favorite subject to teach! I'm just not a "math person." (Another teacher confession: I've sent students across the room get my phone because I needed the calculator!!) Math and I just don't mix! (Yes, even though it's just Kindergarten math!)

Math stations (or centers, as you may call them) have helped make teaching math so much better and easier!

One of the newest additions to my math stations are these magnetic ten frames! (I got them from Amazon.) We used the frames and my apple numbers to show different numbers on the frames.

These numbers have been such a lifesaver when it comes to my math stations. Any time I need numbers for an activity, I just use these! They are color coded with 5's in yellow, 10's in green, and all the rest in red. The set goes from 0-120.

We used these numbers to make number lines to work on number order. We've also practiced skip counting by looking at the pattern of the colors. At the beginning of the year, we simply used these numbers for number recognition and counting!
SO. MANY. USES!!!
Click on the cover to grab it for just $1!!

Another fun activity for math stations....
Write the room just never gets old in my classroom...even during math time!
I didn't end up hanging these around the room for time sake, but the kids don't seem to mind!
This pack has 3 different sets of shape cards and matching recording pages for each.

Click on the cover to grab it for just $1!!

I've also marked down the sister pack to this activity ... 2D Shapes Write the Room!

Click on the cover to grab it for just $1!!

One of my best blogging friends Kelly from Sweet Sounds of Kindergarten agreed to join in the dollar deal fun! She has also marked down her Dinosaur Graphing and Writing pack to $1!
Click on the cover to grab it for just $1!!

I hope I've been able to make some of your math planning and teaching a bit easier! And, if you're not a "math person" just like me, it's ok!! These activities will be sure to help make your math time a bit better!
Don't forget, these dollar deals are only good for 3 days so grab them NOW!

It's SPRING (in Florida at least!!)

Hey everyone! It's Elyse from A is for Apples and I'm writing this post to you ONE day away from spring break!!! I'm not going to lie and tell you I'm all planned and ready for when we return from break...because I'm not!!! (I'm already mentally on spring break, laying out in the Florida sunshine, which is why this post is going to be short and sweet!)
However, I've created a few new spring packs that will be a huge help when we go back to school!

{Click on the cover image.}
My Read-Trace-Write-Glue sentences are one of my favorite things in my store!! They are so simple, yet so efficient! Students have to read and trace the sentence. They have to write it and then cut out the words and glue the sentence in order.

Ok, I actually do have these copied and ready to go for morning work when we return!!
Yay, 1 thing planned!!!

{Click on the cover image.}
These tree map graphic organizers will be on the top of my list to use when we get back after break! This pack includes anchor chart cards and graphic organizers for all kinds of spring topics! I love using these to have my students plan their writing. It's so fun to see how far they've come with their writing skills!!

Grab these 2 spring time deals for just $1 each right NOW!!
THIS weekend ONLY!!!

Don't forget!! My Spring Write the Room is always a steal at $1!

{Click on the cover image.}
20 spring pictures and 3 differentiated recording pages. I must print and laminate this before I go on break because this girl is not working over spring break! (Except for creating new products and updating some really old ones!!)

P.S. I do apologize if I have offended you by: a) talking about the spring weather already happening here in Florida and b) talking about how I'm about to be on spring break!!!! Sorry, not sorry?? Isn't that what they all say nowadays?!
