Strengthening Common Core Standards R.I & SL.2 with Making Inferences Packs!

So let's talk about Making Inferences for a moment. Weather you teach primary or elementary grades, this is a difficult strategy for students to grasp. Sometime it is due to lack of personal experiences & background knowledge. Which, if that's the case then your students will tend to shut down & not participate. That is the last thing we want. Teaching & learning needs to be meaningful, intentional & fun! We need to use a gradual release as we build students with strategies & skills that they can eventually apply independently.

So with all that being said, we need to teach Making Inferences intentionally with a gradual release. That is why I have created this product. Teaching students to infer visually first with low level questioning & prompts. Then eventually move into inferring text with higher level questioning & fewer prompts. This gradual release will help to build confidence in students to use meaningful strategies on their own.

Lastly, the ultimate test of comprehension is in a written format. When student can transfer their oral reasoning & comprehension into a written format, as teachers we can really assess the students true capabilities of the concept taught.
