Master Multiplication with Triangle Flash Cards

Hi, friends, it's Peggy Means from Primary Flourish.
I hope you are having a wonderful school year with your students!

I want to share some fun multiplication flash cards and activities with you that will help you help your students 'flourish' in mastering their math facts.

These are not your mother's flash cards. . .
they are triangles and they are a super-effective tool for mastering math facts!
They can be used in so many ways!

Individual Use
Small Group
Whole Class
Homework
Look how they make it easy to see the commutative property in action!
2x3=6 and 3x2=6
They also demonstrate how multiplication and division are inverse operations.
Once students master the multiplication facts, the division facts come so. much. easier!

One of my students' favorite whole-group activities with these flash cards
 is a cooperative learning activity we call
Partner Quiz.
It's a super engaging activity and the kids ASK for it!
{I have complete instructions in the pack.}

Math mats are included to using in teaching the concept or review in centers.

Here is another great way to use them - with a recording sheet for seat work or math centers.
3 different recording sheets are included, to make it easy to differentiate.

I like to send them home with this letter to make it easy for the family to help.

You can see, these flash cards are packed with possibilities!
Many engaging ways to give your students that
needed practice to master their multiplication facts!
It is a great CCSS Aligned resource for your classroom.

Multiplication Strategy Flip Book

Hi, friends, it's Peggy Means from Primary Flourish.
I look forward to seeing you every month on the 27!

I am so excited to introduce you to the very first in my new series,
Multiplication Flip Books!
Multiplication Facts Fluency
I am excited about these flip books because I know they will help so many students who are just beginning their journey with multiplication and division in third grade...
and those students in fourth and fifth that still are on that journey...
to make the recall of the facts automatic.
This interactive flip book illustrates and provides practice with
5 basic multiplication strategies:
EQUAL GROUPS
ARRAYS
REPEATED ADDITION
SKIP-COUNTING
RELATED FACTS

I have also included a set of anchor posters for you to use as your teach the strategies, and then have in your room for students to refer to.

Multiplication Facts Fluency

Here is a glimpse of the flip book ready for student use!
Multiplication Facts

Research shows that students who learn to use these mental math strategies actually memorize the multiplication and division facts faster than those who do not.

Mastering Math Facts {with The Primary Gal}

Hey there!  It's Amanda from The Primary Gal!  My post today is a product that seemed to take FOREVER to create and perfect!  But my goodness, it was totally worth it.  Seriously.  I don't know about you but many of my fifth grade students tend to struggle with basic multiplication facts.  It's sad to see them understanding HOW to do things but not be able to complete tasks correctly and consistently due to math fact mastery.  So as any teacher-author would do, I set to creating a solution!

Now, maybe I've been helping my kindergartener with her book club where they use these folders to transport books to and from school; but I felt that I just had to create a self-paced system that would allow students to master multiplication facts and build mathematical confidence.  Or....MAYBE I just wanted an excuse to use these ADORABLE folders!  Either way, I set to work!

Last year, I found an old copy of Dr. Carl Seltzer's book Multiplication Facts in Seven Days.  I loved the way he broke up the facts and allowed students to use the commutative property of multiplication to lighten the load of fact mastery.  Why spend time learning your 1's, followed by your 2's, and 3's?  By the time they get to the 6's, they are DONE!

So I set to work making printer friendly flash cards and assessments for my students to begin using.  I passed them out and explained the system to parents at Parent-Teacher Conferences to ensure that they understood that the program is self paced and what my expectations were.  I also included a parent letter incase they didn't attend conferences or needed a refresher later.

Inside each folder is a ziplock baggie with the facts for Set One.  Set One is the largest set but only includes eight facts.  When the parent feels that the student is able to fluently answer each fact in the folder they return it to school.  I then assess the students using quick, printer friendly assessments.

My students have actually enjoyed doing these.  Since I am only doing it with about six students in my classroom and six students in the other fifth grade classroom, they feel a little *privileged* to have something that the other students don't.  My fear was that the opposite effect would happen.  They have handled it well and have been very motivated to move through the six sets.

If you're interested in using this system in your own classroom, you can grab the Addition and Multiplication Editions by clicking the images below!  Don't forget, they're only on sale for THREE DAYS! :)

Back to School Printables {from The Primary Gal}

It's that time of year again.  I'm busy planning and preparing for the upcoming year.  This summer, one of my goals is to create several sets of simple, themed printable computation sets for one of my centers.  I have a few sets completed and would love to share them with you today for my monthly Dollar Steal!

I don't know what it is about pages like this, but my kids LOVE them!  Each page contains seven problems for students to complete.  Then, they paste the correct answer next to the problem.

I am pretty sure every student in my room races to my computation center when it involves a spinner!  With this engaging printable, students spin two numbers and then either add, subtract, or multiply them together.

I always love seeing my kids reaction to this printable.  I like for them to see that multiple combinations of numbers can all have the same sum, difference, or product.  With this center, they solve twelve problems and sort them between three different answers.

Math Games to End the Year

I don't know about you, but I'm in the HOME STRETCH of this school year!  Hi! It's Debbi from 3rd Grade Pad, and I'm bringing you a few math games to get your kids out of their seats and reviewing those tricky facts!

I really love letting my kids play "I Have, Who Has" games.
If you haven't tried this, I highly encourage you to try it!  It's super simple.

If you're ready to give it a shot, I'm offering two sets of my games that target those TRICKY MIDDLE FACTS!

See it in my store HERE
This set includes two sets of game cards.  One set requires the players to listen for the product.  Pretty straight forward.  What my kids really struggled with and had to THINK was with the giving the product and trying to think of what expression when with it!  You can certainly have two games going at once and let your high kids play the more challenging set, while those that are still trying to recall the products will get good practice.

See it in my store HERE
My division set is a smaller set of cards because it is harder to come up with enough combinations!  At any rate, I wanted  my kids to have practice there also.  This set works just like my multiplication set.  One set of cards is more straight forward by starting with the expression and kids recalling the quotient.  It gets more challenging with the second set trying to recall the combinations of numbers that can have a certain quotient!
I really like playing this one in small groups, since there aren't quite as many cards. It's a great warm-up game before we remediate/enrich a task.

That's it for me, y'all! Enjoy your sweet kidlets as we get closer to summer!  When I see you here next month, I will have been enjoying some poolside lounging, for sure!

Spring Multiplication Printables {with The Primary Gal}

Hey there!  It's Amanda from The Primary Gal.  Lately, I've been running like 4,000 miles an hour.  I think it's the time of year.  You are either busy prepping for standardized testing or you are planning for end of year events.  And let me tell ya, it is EXHAUSTING! Because of that, I'm not going to lie...my products right now are being created to easy MY load.  My hope is that as I easy my stress load a little, you can find some use in your classroom as well.

During my centers each day, I have a math computation center.  This center is designed to target students who need continual, spiral review.  We all know the kids that I'm talking about.  You introduce a skill, they kick butt at it, and a month later they act as if they have NEVER completed that type of problem.  This year, that is half of my class.  So at my computation center, I typically have task cards or some type of worksheet to help them practice.  Unfortunately, they were getting bored.  Ouch!  That hurts admitting it.  But it's true.  They. Were. Bored.  So, I am working to improve this center through seasonal printables.  And so far, mission accomplished.

My kids love the opportunity to get a chance to cut and paste various answers to problems or even use a spinner to create their own problems.  Meanwhile, I am in love with the fact that they are no longer avoiding this center like the plague AND they are getting critical practice on basic skills right before testing.  Win, win!

I'd love for you to check these printables out while they are on sale for only $1.00!!! Also be sure to check back for more spring printables in division, decimals, and fractions.  :)
