Spring into Literacy {Keri from Enchanted Kinder Garden}

Hey friends!!!!!

Am I the only person counting down the days until the end of school? Today's my last day of spring break... however, it ended yesterday because I had to work at our Strawberry Festival this morning. It's always good to see kids outside of school and with their families. It makes me even more excited to know that summer is near!

With that being said, tomorrow we are going to be using EVEN more of my Spring has Sprung Math and Literacy resource during our Daily 5 word work and with our math workshops. For that reason alone, I've decided to make my dollar deal this month all about that literacy!!!

So far, my kids are LOVING the cvc and cvce puzzles. The simply match up the pictures/letters to form a word. They can record the words that they made on an optional recording sheet.

Write the room is always another favorite. We actually started calling this one WRECK the room instead. I absolutely love it since I've gotten tired of hearing the other. All of the words are spring themed. This is also GREAT to us when they are writing. My kiddos are able to roam the room any time throughout our day. They use these words during write to self and their writing workshop.

Switch 'N Fix is my favorite game that they played before spring break. They read/look at the picture. Read the word and have to figure out which letter is incorrect. On the recording sheet, they color in B, M, or E and then write the correct letter. Of course, this wasn't good enough for my kids. They asked if they could just write the entire correct word. OF COURSE.

We have word family mats to write word families. Laminate and then use with a dry erase marker OR slide into a page protector.

Also included in this set is resources to work on syllables, write on/wipe off cards for spelling practice, and digraphs.

For the next THREE days, this resource is MARKED DOWN $4. Get it for ONLY one dollar. Don't forget to pin it, share it on fb, and tell a few kindergarten or first grade teachers! Don't forget, I'm here on the 12th of EVERY month with a great dollar deal for you!

Sweet Treats: Kindergarten Valentine Centers

Happy New Year Friends!

If you're anything like me, you like to plan ahead and prep. My teacher deal and dollar steal this month is all about LOVE. Yup. Valentine's Day. If you teach kinder or first, then this post is just what you need next month. It will be here for THREE days only.

This pack was one of my favorite things that we did last school year. I didn't add it in my store until after Valentine's Day, so I'm bringing it early this year. Here's what you will get.

My kiddos LOVED the word family matchup. I'm not sure why... (possibly because I'm obsessed with word families).

Base Ten and Ones

Real and Nonsense Words

This was also another favorite. We put it in a pocket chart. Pick a mailbox and build a word. Sorry for the glare...

Middle Sound Matchup Puzzles

That's just a few of the games that are included.

Here's a freebie for you while you get ready for Valentine's Day.

Ten Frame Practice

Have great January. This pack will be on sale until Wednesday night.

Read! Think! Write! with Holiday Riddles!

Greetings of the season my friends!

It's Jennifer here from Stories and Songs in Second

I'm happy to be back today with a parody of C. Clement Moore's classic poem, 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, along with a resource that will hopefully make your school days in December a little bit easier!

Know that I took a LOT of poetic license with some of the rhymes, so just bear with me!   Hopefully,
Sr. Mary Rose Krupp--my senior high creative writing teacher--will forgive me!  Here goes.....

'Twas a month before Christmas,
when all through the school.
Not too many children
were listening,
which was really not cool.

The teachers were trying,
to make activities fun.
The kids just weren't learning!
They wanted lessons to be done.

Then along came some riddles,
some with silly pictures and clues.
Thinking skills and highlighters were
encouraged and ready to be used!

Solving the mysteries made reading and writing,
all the more focused and oh so delighting!
Some kids worked together, some worked alone.
No one left their seats or around the room did they roam.

They used inside voices, and laughed at the jokes.
The pictures were of some pretty funny holiday folks!
They colored and drew, and wrote their own riddles too!
Then asked their neighbor to try and solve their new clues!

If you'd like to try these act-i-vi-ties,
then head to my store.....Jennifer Reynolds on T-p-T!
There's also a FREEBIE tucked in this post,
to show you that I appreciate you, my customers, the most!

As always, thank you for sharing my story!  Continue to teach your children well, hold a song in your heart, always find time for a rhyme, wish upon a star, and keep smiling!

Head over to my
to scoop up both riddle packs
as well as this one too!

May your holidays be merry and bright!
~Jennifer
