Let's take a look into some of the pieces that are included in this unit!
I always start by putting this large watermelon sort underneath my document camera to show kids the difference between a "small moment" and a "large moment" AKA "watermelon event" or "seed event"
Here are the seeds that go along with that sort. You could even print this and have the kids do it themselves or right along with you. I also offer it in black and white, so don't worry about using up all of your colored ink!
Then, you can check to see if they truly "get it" by using this personal, smaller sized sort with your students! This time, I offer picture cards with descriptions of the events. I like to print these and laminate them and to use them in small groups. You can do them however works best for you! And again, they are also offered in black and white!
There are two different sets of sorting cards for you to choose from! I always like having options and sometimes I like to give my students different sets when they are sitting next to each other.
Before they write, I think it is important to give students graphic organizers. This is a write and sketch activity, where students jot down their ideas and draw it out too.
This is a web where students can write and label different events in the story.
And if you know me, you know I always love, love, love writing prompts! There are a few pages of writing prompts that you can pick from if you want your students to have different options to choose from!
And you guessed it, the prompts come in black and white too!
Along with these activities, you get so much more! You can see my complete product listing here, under my personal narratives unit. Don't forget, it will be just $1.00 for the next three days! I hope you love it as much as I do!
This looks amazing!
