Heidi Butkus. Heidi has taught in CA since 1985. 

She combines brain research with practical 

experience to develop engaging teaching techniques. She is currently teaching TK and  presents workshops for teachers across the country. 

Drew

Bring mindfulness, American Sign Language, &     Yoga  into your classroom with Drew Giles. Drew  has taught ECE and Kindergarten, including low-income, in the U.S. and South Korea. He co-authored a book with Dr. Jean Feldman and is currently the Director of Quality Enhancement and Professional Development for Oakland Unified School District.

8 Quick Ideas To Go Worksheetless! (Is that a word?)

Save Paper, Time, and Make Learning FUN:

Here are a few ways to provide engaging activities without taking the time to make copies. And just think of all of the trees you'll save!

1.  Using workbook pages in a NON-consumable way: This is so much more fun than circling pictures with a pencil, right? :)

2.  Use fun manipulatives to create new onset rimes:

3.  Copy it once on cardstock, laminate it, and use it for years and years:

4.  Use sight word cards and picture cards to create sentences:

5.  Create a re-usable dry-erase surface where students can practice letter and number formation, their sight words, or writing of any kind. YOU can also write a word there for the student to copy. :)

I found these self-sticking lined, dry-erase sheets on Amazon.
I attached them to laminated construction paper for my small group table. 

6.  Use a dotted font and print letters, numbers, or sight words on cardstock. Students write their name on the card, place it on the carpet (or a carpet square if you don't have carpeting in your classroom), and they use a push-pin to poke through the holes. They get to take the card home and tape it to a window where the light will shine through to reveal their work. You can also tape these up on your classroom window and turn the classroom lights off to see the outside light shining through. Great to use for their names too!

7.  And here is another FREEBIE for you:  An entire set of numeral cards with the straight 4 (not like this "4" one) and the straight 9 (not like this "9" curvy one). And the numbers are underlined so students know which way they go! I put up a clothesline in front of a cupboard and students got to add the number cards to the clothesline to create a number line! Tons of fun and the cards are FREE! You can grab a clothesline at the Dollar Store. ;)

Snowy Snapshots: NO PREP Skills Practice Pages

Happy New Year! I'm not really big on giving lots of worksheets to my kinders but of course there is a time and place for everything and sometimes you just need a quick printable to get in some quality skills practice.  For just this reason I have created this Snowy Snapshots pack of winter No Prep Printables!  Here is a sample with 4 FREE pages for you to use in your classroom!  I hope you find them helpful.

Dollar Deals Galore!

Happy New Year, everyone! It's Gina from Teaching With Heart. I am SO excited to see what 2016 has in store for me, and I hope you are ready to tackle the new year as well! This month, I began creating a new series of products called Let's Label. My students LOVED learning about labeling a diagram, and it turned out to be a great way for them to practice some important writing skills!

I really love this series because I have such a range of abilities in my classroom, and these labeling activities help me to target all of my learners! The advanced version requires students to use the words from the word bank to label the diagram. Then, they must use one of those words in a sentence.

The more scaffolded version requires students to cut and paste the labels onto the diagram. This is great for my students who lack strong fine motor skills- they still get to practice the skill of labeling! After their diagram is labeled, there is a pre-written sentence for them to trace and practice reading.

These labeling activities also come with COLOR versions which I love to use because I only have to print them once! I print them out and put them in dry erase sleeves (you could also laminate them or put them in sheet protectors). My students are able to complete the activity using a dry erase marker in our writing center. Much less prep for me!!

Vocabulary for the Holidays!

Hey there! It's Elyse from A is for Apples and Kelly from Sweet Sounds of Kindergarten! We love the holiday season and try to make the holidays a fun time in our classrooms! We both have some great products you can use to introduce, practice, and review vocabulary words for the holidays in your classroom!

Elyse helps her students learn holiday vocabulary by putting holiday word scrambles into the word work station. These can be used as a hands-on, center activity - just print, laminate and cut out. Or, use the black & white printables so students can cut, glue, and take home their holiday words.
