Singular & Plural Nouns Sort {Winter Themed}

Hello from Education Lahne! This month, I wanted to feature a best selling skill from my store and create a winter themed sort. My students LOVE doing sorts as a whole class, with a partner, in centers, or even on their own. I love that they are so versatile!

This set includes two different sorts, one with sentences and one with words. The sentence sort includes 18 different sentences that your students will sort according to the underlined noun. They will have a recording sheet where they will write down the noun under the correct category {singular or plural}. The word sort includes 20 sorting cards and a recording sheet as well. Both sorts come with answer keys. For my own classroom, I keep the keys in a designated area, so students may check they answers to see if they are correct or need reteaching.

Scootin' into the New Year

Hello! Jen from Sparkling in Second  here :) I hope you are all starting on your break VERY soon! Make sure to take advantage of this deal while you relax this weekend ;)

Here is a fun review game of three parts of speech (nouns, verbs, and adjectives). A perfect way to start the new year, refreshing your kids' memories ;)

We love to use scoots (or "roam the rooms"), when we are reviewing subjects we already know! Don't know how it works? Read the directions here (this can be used as a scoot around the room, a center, or a whole group activity).

Sounds fun right? My students LOVE these. I made two different recording sheets for differentiation.

Exit Tickets are EXITing!

Hey y'all! It's Aimee from {Taking on Second}! I want to explain my love of exit tickets! If your room is anything like mine at the end of the day, it is almost complete chaos! Everyone knows the end result is to be ready to go, but no matter how much I try to have them go in a specific order, only a handful follow directions! We have only been late getting out one time this year, so I guess what we do is working just fine!

Check out the boy getting ready to run on the right side! It is just a little bit of a mess! Then I have kids who are following directions and have to wait, just standing by their chairs for five or more minutes. This is where my {Exit Tickets} are going to come into play!
After my students are all packed up and ready to go, they will grab their ticket from a basket on the horseshoe table in the back!

So far, I have addition, subtraction, and grammar packs ready. Each category has five cards(a weeks worth) to use. So the bottom ones are basic addition facts, there are five different tickets that cover basic addition. These can be done in one week or thrown in for a mixed review through the week! 

After filling out their ticket, which should take less than one minute, they will fold it once and stick it inside an empty Lysol container! Super easy to set up!

Then I can take a quick assessment on them when I get back to my room after dismissal. These are also set up to take less than five minutes to glance through and grade. This can help me form my RTI groups for the next day!

Word Mats for October {Proud to be Primary}

I'm excited to be back sharing October Word Mats with you! 

Word Mats are similar to Math Mats and take the same format, but cover ELA standards.

Word Mats for October provides a lot of practice on many different language skills. 

I created Word Mats so that I had something to give my students to practice the ELA concepts that we needed to know on a daily basis. I wanted each page of this resource to provide an abundance of learning opportunities, as well as the necessary review that is needed in order for students to retain an understanding of ELA skills and standards. 

Here is the breakdown of a Word Mat.

Each Word Mat is different and each month touches on almost ALL of the Common Core Standards for Language for first grade. It will also work as ELA review for second grade and for those in Kindergarten needing a challenge. You can be confident that your students are learning and practicing the necessary skills in ELA each month!

Another reason why I LOVE these mats is the low-prep aspect. They are print and go style printable sheets that lend themselves well to many uses. 

Copy Word Mats on card stock and laminate. You could also put the pages inside a wipe-off cover. Give students a dry erase pen to complete the Word Mat for that day. After they complete a mat, they simply clean it off and give to someone else to complete. They work great for your literacy center and during your fast finisher time.

You can print Word Mats on seasonal colored paper. You can keep them stored for each month ready to go.

A cover page is provided in each Word Mat pack with the option of creating a booklet for your students. These booklets work great for morning work time or for homework packets to send home with your students each month. Parents would love that!

Word Mats work great, as well during your small group time! 

Another option for keeping Word Mats and other ELA activities all in one place is to use a three pronged folder. I love using these types of folders because my students can keep them in their book baskets or desks and they are easily accessible when needed. 

You could make a copy of the monthly Word Mats for each students to place inside their folder and use for morning work and homework.

Here is close-up sample of a Word Mat. Each mat has a spot for your students' name and the date. Each Word Mat is clearly represented with the ELA concept (heading) at the top of each section. The instructions are below the headings and important text is in bold to help students complete the activities. Seasonal and related graphics are used to clearly represent the questions.
