Sight Word Fun- Pancake Flip Game

Hi Everyone,

If your kids are like mine, then any extra practice reading and writing sight words is always in order.

Here is a fun game where the kids use a real spatula to scoop up a pancake.  They read the word on the pancake, write the word on the recording sheet, then flip the pancake onto a plate.

This is perfect for pajama day or as a center activity.  You can put all the pancakes out at once, or add them to the center as you introduce the words to your class.

This activity covers Fry's 100 word list and supports your Common Core Curriculum in a fun way.

Vocabulary for the Holidays!

Hey there! It's Elyse from A is for Apples and Kelly from Sweet Sounds of Kindergarten! We love the holiday season and try to make the holidays a fun time in our classrooms! Asking and Answering Questions

Hi, Just popping in today to quickly share my most recent resource. This week we are delving into the standard related to asking and answering questions about key details in text. I needed something my students could use multiple times as a literacy center. I created this resource which covers multiple standards and provides rigor to the process of asking and answering questions.

I included posters which clearly focus on the question stems, "who,what, where, when, why, and how."  Reviewing these helped my students when they formulate or answer questions.

24 versatile task cards are included. These can be used as a center to engage students in questions and discussions about any text you assign or they self select.  All cards can be placed at the center, or simply choose the focus of your instruction.  Student directions are included, as well as a response sheet.  The cards can also be used as a Scoot Activity.  A response sheet has been provided for this. 3 bonus printable sheets are included.

Halloween Literacy Centers

Here in Kentucky the weather has started to getting cooler and fall is in the air.

Halloween will be here before you know it and it happens to be one of my favorite times of the year.  Especially when I get to pull out my Halloween centers.  They always seem to be a hit with my firsites.

There Was An Old Lady...

Greetings! I'm Trina, a Special Education teacher, from The Ordinary to Extraordinary Classroom!

Up for grabs today, math and literacy activities to accompany the book The Little Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Books by Lucille Colandro.

I usually start the school year with Pete the Cat activities, but since I retain the same students year after year, I decided to shake things up a bit this upcoming school year. I am kicking the year of with the Old Lady.

The abilities of my students varies immensely, so when creating products I keep in mind each student's goals and objectives. For varying reading levels, I created two readers.

Reader 1 contains complete sentences. 

Reader 2 contains vocabulary words directly from the story.

This product contains the following literacy activities:

Staple the numbered picture cards around the room. The students will walk around the classroom, find the number on the cards, and write the word in the box on the worksheet with same number as the card. . 

In regards to math activities, this product contains the following: 

Ordinal Numbers 

Telling Time to the Hour and Half Hour 

Counting Coins

Spring into Literacy {Keri from Enchanted Kinder Garden}

Hey friends!!!!!

Am I the only person counting down the days until the end of school? Today's my last day of spring break... however, it ended yesterday because I had to work at our Strawberry Festival this morning. It's always good to see kids outside of school and with their families. It makes me even more excited to know that summer is near!

With that being said, tomorrow we are going to be using EVEN more of my Spring has Sprung Math and Literacy resource during our Daily 5 word work and with our math workshops. For that reason alone, I've decided to make my dollar deal this month all about that literacy!!!

So far, my kids are LOVING the cvc and cvce puzzles. The simply match up the pictures/letters to form a word. They can record the words that they made on an optional recording sheet.

Write the room is always another favorite. We actually started calling this one WRECK the room instead. I absolutely love it since I've gotten tired of hearing the other. All of the words are spring themed. This is also GREAT to us when they are writing. My kiddos are able to roam the room any time throughout our day. They use these words during write to self and their writing workshop.

Switch 'N Fix is my favorite game that they played before spring break. They read/look at the picture. Read the word and have to figure out which letter is incorrect. On the recording sheet, they color in B, M, or E and then write the correct letter. Of course, this wasn't good enough for my kids. They asked if they could just write the entire correct word. OF COURSE.

We have word family mats to write word families. Laminate and then use with a dry erase marker OR slide into a page protector.

Also included in this set is resources to work on syllables, write on/wipe off cards for spelling practice, and digraphs.

March Story Problems & More!
