Wonderful Winter Word Work!

Greetings from northwest Ohio where the weather forecast calls for high winds and snow storms starting later tonight!

Am I wishing, and hoping, and praying for a SNOW DAY?  You betcha!

My students were a acting a little loony today, so I am for sure wearing my pajamas inside out, putting a spoon under my pillow, and flushing an ice cube down the toilet in hopes of some time away from the fray tomorrow!  Time off would also allow me to print and prep these word power activities that just received a makeover!  If you own it already, be sure to re-download!  If you don't, grab it {HERE} for $1 through Wednesday, January 13th!  Be sure to check out the full product preview!

Last year my class had great fun creating these paper bag snowman puppets and writing winter compound words on the snowballs provided.  They also enjoyed highlighting the rhyming words they found in my original Snow Day poem, and kept it in their partner reading folders for fluency practice.

Making words activities, as well as a variety of creative writing prompts are provided and can be used for whole group lessons or literacy center practice.

Going Crazy for Compound Words!

Hello Friends!

It's Jennifer here from Stories and Songs in Second,  
here to share a "recycled" post from about one of my favorite word work lessons!

This set of fall-themed compound word activities is sure to help your primary grade students strengthen their vocabulary skills!  Be sure to include these two

picture books in your lesson plans as well!

After reading, brainstorm a class list of favorite compound words for students to reference as they read and write.

Student partners can also practice building new compound words at a literacy station or 

 use the word part cards in a pocket chart during a whole-group lesson!

As of 9/13/15, this pack also includes 12 word part cards without the picture clues per
customer request!  Please re-download the file if you already own it!

Use these recording sheets to either pre-assess student skills before

your lesson or afterwards as a post-assessment or exit ticket.

Extend the lesson and incorporate writing practice by asking students to use the list of compound words, or word lists they've generated on their own, in sentences or stories.

Your students will enjoy being "word detectives" and using context clues

to complete these sentences!

Compound Words Activity Packet!

Hello everyone!  Happy Fourth of July!  It's Jayme from Teach Talk Inspire!  

I am so excited to be joining this fabulous team of bloggers to share some great dollar deals with you!  I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday with friends and family and getting to enjoy some quality down time. 

July Fourth has always been a favorite holiday of mine.  Who doesn't enjoy spending time with loved ones, grilling hot dogs and hamburgers, and watching fireworks?!  I'm taking a quick break from the patriotic celebrations to share a new dollar deal with you today!

Even though it's summer and we're all relaxing, I know we're all looking to stock up on some goodies for our incoming students.  Today I'm sharing a packet of activities from my store that my students absolutely LOVED this year!  My Compound Words Activity Pack!

Teaching compound words is so much fun and I loved using the different interactive activities and games included in this packet.  There are very few days that you WILL NOT find my students up and moving and this packet of activities helps you to do just that.  Keep your students moving and having fun!

My students loved starting their learning with these adorable visual cards and game called Compound Connection.  My students were each given a puzzle piece and asked to find a matching partner who would create a real compound word with them. 

Also in this packet, you will find compound word display cards to use for your word wall, on an anchor chart, or for a center activity!

My students LOVE interactive activities like Find Someone Who.  Not only does it get my students up and moving but it allows for all of my kids to interact and participate at the same time.  My students don't even realize they're learning when they're playing this game!

What kid doesn't love to scoot?  My kids get such a kick out of scooting around the classroom to other kid's desk or around the room.  This compound word scoot is a great way to assess students to see where their knowledge of compound words are and what additional practice they may need.  

Another interactive activity included in this packet is Compound Word Pictionary!  My students love to draw and this was a great way for them to practice identifying compound words, spelling them, and using them in sentences!
