Math Games to End the Year

I don't know about you, but I'm in the HOME STRETCH of this school year!  Hi! It's Debbi from 3rd Grade Pad, and I'm bringing you a few math games to get your kids out of their seats and reviewing those tricky facts!

I really love letting my kids play "I Have, Who Has" games. 

If you haven't tried this, I highly encourage you to try it!  It's super simple.

This set includes two sets of game cards.  One set requires the players to listen for the product.  Pretty straight forward.  What my kids really struggled with and had to THINK was with the giving the product and trying to think of what expression when with it!  You can certainly have two games going at once and let your high kids play the more challenging set, while those that are still trying to recall the products will get good practice.

My division set is a smaller set of cards because it is harder to come up with enough combinations!  At any rate, I wanted  my kids to have practice there also.  This set works just like my multiplication set.  One set of cards is more straight forward by starting with the expression and kids recalling the quotient.  It gets more challenging with the second set trying to recall the combinations of numbers that can have a certain quotient!  

I really like playing this one in small groups, since there aren't quite as many cards. It's a great warm-up game before we remediate/enrich a task.

Classroom Hunting!

Who doesn't LOVE a good scavenger hunt?  In my classroom, anytime my kids see cards laying around the room, they are instantly engaged!  I recently updated a few of my older products and have been using them with a couple of tutoring groups after school.

Not only do my students love a good classroom hunt, but so do I.  They require very minimal preparation and are self checking for students.  It allows me to set my higher students free and assist my lower students as needed.  

I always begin by hiding the cards around the room.  I never tell them where the "Start" card is hidden.  They take their clip boards and recording sheets and make their way around the room.  After they find the "Start" card, they solve the problem given.  Once they have a confident answer to their problem, they make their way around the room and search for the answer.  This can be entertaining.  ;)

In the upper right hand corner of the card is the answer to the prior problem.  On this particular card, the quotient to the previous problem was 27.  When the student finds 27, they will quickly and quietly write down and solve the problem.  When they solve the problem shown above, they will discover that the quotient to this problem is 67.  Therefore, they will take off in search of the answer 67.  When they have successfully solved all of the problems, one answer will lead them to The END!

Ho! Ho! Ho! Math Facts We Know!

Hi, it's Jamie from Diary of a Not So Wimpy Teacher!

I can hardly believe that I only have eleven days of school left before winter break! Seems like school started just yesterday.

In order to survive the crazy month of December, I have to keep student engagement high. One way that I do this is by making my academic lessons a little more crafty! For example, my students love to make this cute Santa craft.

It's cute, but the best part is that the beard is made up of multiplication facts that my students have to solve before making the beard! They are practicing their facts and barely even know it!

I have this Santa craft for both multiplication and division. I often mix them for differentiation.
